Looking for Halloween Fun in Boston with Kids?
I can't believe that Halloween is in just a few days! Typically I love this holiday. I always swore to be the family that all dressed up together. Flashback to Grayson's first Halloween ever!
I'm not sure what's going on, but this year has been a challenge. Grayson declared that he wanted to be a Triceratops Dinosaur a few weeks ago. A regular dino or T-Rex would not do. This is not an easy costume to find, but thanks to some of your suggestions and a bit of extensive online searching, I found the perfect match. I ordered it with plenty of time to spare and checked it off the list. Then yesterday I got an email from Amazon that the shipping was delayed and the costume wouldn't arrive until Nov 1st. Ummm thanks Amazon! So after a minor panic attack, more online searching and an extra $30 in expedited shipping, Triceratops should be arriving on Friday. And then I remembered Max. Oh right, poor second child, what are you going to be? So far all I've done is order a knit dinosaur hat online and I'm planning to figure out the rest, ummm, tonight? Eek!
Why the panic you say? Couldn't we go get something from a store? Technically yes, but I don't want to risk it because we've got some pretty awesome Halloween events to attend!
My family and I are celebrating Halloween weekend this year at the epic PRUBOO event here in Boston. PRUBOO is a family friendly morning of fun for children to go trick-or-treating at over 50 participating stores and restaurants in the Prudential Center. Activities such as face painting, magic shows and more take place throughout the center where kids can show off their costumes and enjoy some indoor fun.
The event takes place this Sunday, October 30th. Trick-or-treating will runs from 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM. Then at 1:30 PM there's a Kids Concert with Stacey Peasley in the South Garden (weather permitting).
Everyone is welcome to participate and for just $4 your child gets a trick-or-treat bag to use for collecting candy at participating stores. This $4 donation goes to the non-profit partner of the event - Horizons for Homeless Children. Horizons for Homeless Children's mission is to help alleviate the trauma and stress of homelessness on both children and their families by providing world-class early education, vital opportunities for play, support for parents, and crucial advocacy on behalf of some of our most marginalized citizens.
So basically you get to have a wonderful time with your family AND support a great cause! Bags can be purchased on the day of the event, starting at 9AM in the check-in area at the Center Court. If you want to beat the crowds, simply stop by the Customer Service desk any day leading up to the event to buy.
Can't wait to see some of you guys and your cute little ones dressed up on Sunday! Who's planning to go?
As for actual Halloween here in Charlestown, it's kind of a big deal! Starting at 5pm there's a concert at the Bunker Hill Monument, followed by a parade and massive trick-or-treating. I'm talking like thousands and thousands of kids!
This picture from last year says it all.
If you live in Boston and you are looking for a fun place to take your kids on Halloween night, Charlestown IS THE PLACE TO BE! It's pretty cool to live in a neighborhood that has such a fun and memorable tradition!
